Badania



Cele badawcze

Badania mają charakter poznawczy, ich celem jest interpretacja niewyjaśnionych do tej pory zjawisk fizycznych zachodzących w nanostrukturach oraz modelowanie tych nanostruktur. Badania dotyczą zagadnień istotnych z praktycznego punktu widzenia, związanych z nanotechnologią, spintroniką i kalorytroniką spinową. Szczególną uwagę zwraca się na problemy dotyczące transportu spinowego, korelacji elektronowych (hubbardowskie, blokada kulombowska, efekt Kondo) i niedoskonałości strukturalnych (efekty brzegowe, interfejsy, defekty, domieszki, pofałdowanie powierzchni itd.). Rozwijanie teorii opartej na wykorzystaniu spinowego (obok ładunkowego) stopnia swobody elektronu nawiązuje do innowacyjnych, energooszczędnych koncepcji elektroniki przyszłości, istotnych dla ochrony środowiska naturalnego i gospodarki.

Profil badawczy

Badania teoretyczne zjawisk elektronowych, magnetycznych i magneto-termoelektrycznych w układach nanoskopowych. W szczególności intensywnie badane są nanostruktury węglowe (nanorurki i grafen), układy grafenopodobne oraz kropki kwantowe. Stosowany jest szeroki wachlarz metod obliczeniowych, począwszy od metod analitycznych i wstępnej analizy przy pomocy prostych programów poprzez obliczenia w modelu ciasnego wiązania, aż do zaawansowanych obliczeń z pierwszych zasad. W badaniach transportowych używana jest technika funkcji Greena w kombinacji z metodą Landauera-Büttikera i formalizmem Keldysha (w przypadku nierównowagowym).

Osiągnięcia naukowe

  • Zbadano spinowy efekt Halla w jedno- i dwuwarstwowym grafenie. Pokazano, że w przypadku pola prostopadłego do płaszczyzny grafenowej istnieje przejście od fazy topologicznego izolatora do fazy zwykłego izolatora
  • Wykonano modelowe obliczenia szumu ziarnistego dla podwójnego magnetycznego złącza tunelowego. Przewidywania teoretyczne zweryfikowano przez porównanie z wynikami eksperymentalnymi dla Fe/MgO/Fe/MgO/Fe
  • Zbadano wpływ poprzecznej anizotropii magnetycznej na prądowe przełączanie spinu pojedynczego atomu lub pojedynczej magnetycznej molekuły. Pokazano, że zjawisko kwantowego tunelowania namagnesowania uwidacznia się w pewnych polach rezonansowych, gdy przynajmniej jedna elektroda jest ferromagnetyczna
  • Pokazano, że w obszarze poza osobliwościami van Hove’a polaryzacja spinowa domieszki dla symetrii SU(2) jest przeciwna do polaryzacji dwuwarstwy grafenowej, a dla SU(4) zgodna. W pobliżu osobliwości stwierdzono możliwość odwrócenia momentu magnetycznego domieszki
  • Zbadano wpływ interfejsów między elektrodami a strukturą grafenową oraz krawędziowych stanów elektronowych (w tym tworzących się momentów magnetycznych) na transport elektronowy
  • Zastosowano efektywną metodę rekurencyjną (knitting) do zbadania transportu elektronowego w grafenie z wieloma elektrodami. Stwierdzono istnienie dużego efektu typu zaworu spinowego w przypadku czterech elektrod umieszczonych centralnie na bokach kwadratowego płatka grafenowego
  • W oparciu o obliczenia struktury pasmowej ab initio oraz stosując kilka komplementarnych technik analizy efektów wielociałowych zbadano efekt Kondo dla atomu kobaltu osadzonego na pasku grafenowym typu zygzak. Przedyskutowano współzawodnictwo spinowych i orbitalnych stopni swobody oraz detali struktury elektronowej i magnetycznej pasków na powstawanie rezonansu Kondo
  • Pokazano, że momenty magnetyczne na krawędziach pasków grafenowych typu zygzak mogą ulec znacznemu osłabieniu lub całkowitemu wygaszeniu po przyłożeniu zewnętrznych elektrod prądowych. Efekt silnie zależy od własności elektronowych interfejsu grafen/elektroda oraz od odległości między elektrodami
  • Zbadano też wpływ niedoskonałości strukturalnych badanych nanostruktur, w tym wspomnianych już efektów brzegowych, granic między ziarnami w strukturach polikrystalicznych i tzw. antykropek (pustych obszarów).

W latach 2009-2017 Zakład Teorii Nanostruktur realizował 5 programów badawczych (w tym 1 europejski i 1 bilateralny „Harmonia”). Projekty te poświęcone były badaniom zjawisk fizycznych zachodzących w nanorurkach węglowych, grafenie oraz w nanostrukturach grafenopodobnych o potencjalnym znaczeniu dla nowatorskich zastosowań w nanoelektronice i spintronice.
