AbstractWe discuss the extension of the Landauer formulation of quantum transport to nanosystems inside which electron-electron interactions cannot be neglected. We show that a many-body scatterer can be mapped onto an effective one body scatterer at very low temperatures. But, in contrast to the non interacting limit, this effective scatterer depends on external scatterers which can be present in the attached leads. Using the Hartree-Fock approximation and simple models, we study this non local effect upon quantum transport. We discuss how to detect it using two dimensional electron gases coupled via a quantum point contact. Eventually, we show how a Kondo effect can occur in a spinless model because of inversion.
