Arkadiusz Piekara

Professor Arkadiusz Piekara Professor Arkadiusz Henryk Piekara (1904 - 1989), physicist interested in the physics of dielectrics, ferroelectricity, dielectrical and optical nonlinear phenomena.

He found dielectrical and magnetooptical anomalies near the solubility critical point. He discovered the phenomenon of the reversed dielectrical saturation in the electric and magnetic fields and formulated the theory of the laser beam autocolimation.

Before the war he worked as a teacher at the secondary school in Rydzyna, near Poznan.
In the years 1946 - 1952 professor at the Technical University of Gdansk,
1952 - 1965 professor at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan,
since 1965 - professor at the Warsaw University,
since 1962 the member of the Polish Academy of Sciences,
since 1983 Doctor honoris causa of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan.
