On December 9, 2025, the awards ceremony of the Faculty of Science and Earth Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Faculty III PAS) was held at the headquarters of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. The ceremony was attended by: the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences – Prof. Marek Konarzewski, the Vice President of the Polish Academy of Sciences – Prof. Natalia Sobczak, and the Dean of the Faculty III PAS – Prof. Janusz Jurczak, who presented Dr. Krzysztof Ptaszyński with the Professor Stefan Pieńkowski Award. The award was granted by the Faculty III PAS for Dr. Ptaszyński’s scientific achievement entitled "Statistical Physics of Correlations and Fluctuations in Non-Equilibrium Open Systems".
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Krzysztof Ptaszyński and wish him continued outstanding scientific success.
Dr. Ptaszyński's outstanding scientific achievement involves characterizing processes occurring in open systems (coupled with their environment) far from thermodynamic equilibrium, using modern methods of statistical physics. The fundamental importance of this topic stems from the potential applications of non-equilibrium systems in technology (e.g., nanoelectronics) and their presence in biological processes (e.g., in the operation of molecular machines).
